Bupati Sukoharjo Etik Suryani arrested in KPK anti‑corruption operation

Indonesia’s Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) carried out an operation‑tangkap‑tangan (OTT) in the Solo Raya area of Central Java on 9‑10 July 2026. The raid resulted in the detention of Sukoharjo regent Etik Suryani, who was taken to the KPK’s Red‑White Building in Jakarta and placed in an orange detention vest. Two of her senior officials – Richard Tri Handoko, head of the regional finance and assets agency, and Tri Mulyo, head of the general affairs office – were also named suspects.

KPK designated Etik Suryani as a suspect in an alleged extortion scheme whereby she allegedly used district‑level decision letters and incentive programs to extract payments from civil servants. The commission seized assets worth roughly Rp21.2 billion, including cash, foreign currency (Australian and Singapore dollars, among others) and 2.5 kg of gold.

Following intensive questioning, three other regional officials were released and returned to Sukoharjo by train. Local political parties expressed concern and called for internal reflection, while emphasising the need for continued public‑service delivery during the investigation.

The case adds to a series of anti‑corruption operations that have targeted dozens of Indonesian regional heads in 2026, highlighting ongoing challenges in local governance and accountability.
