Indonesia's KPK detains suspects in hajj quota corruption probe

Indonesia's Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) announced the detention of two new suspects, Ismail Adham and Asrul Azis Taba, on 8 June 2026 for alleged involvement in the 2023‑2024 hajj‑quota corruption scheme. Both were linked to PT Makassar Toraja/Maktour and PT Raudah Eksati Utama, with Asrul formerly heading the national Hajj‑Umrah travel union (Kesthuri). They were held for a 20‑day period at the KPK’s Red‑White Building detention facility.

In a related anti‑corruption operation that began on 7 June, KPK officers seized ten individuals in Jakarta and South Sumatra, including former Muara Enim regent Edison and several private sector figures. The raid recovered cash and foreign currency totalling roughly Rp1.9 billion, and four of those arrested—Edison, Abi Nurwardani, Adi Parlindungan, and Cory Erin Hardi—were formally designated as suspects. An audit cited a state loss of about Rp622 billion linked to the hajj‑quota case.
