Indonesia's KPK intensifies probes of Central Java regents over corruption

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is expanding investigations into alleged graft by regional officials in Central Java. In the Pati case, witness Nur Widayat testified that he felt "pressed, being examined from morning until night" and disputed statements in the investigation report, including claims of receiving Rp721 million from a railway project contractor and handing a kris to former regent Sudewa. Sudewa faces charges of accepting bribes and gratuities totalling Rp3.8 billion.

Separately, KPK announced it may question Etik Suryani’s husband, ETS, in the Sukoharjo extortion case. The commission has detained three suspects – the regent, the local finance chief, and a secretariat official – accused of taking Rp2.93 billion in illicit funds. This follows a series of anti‑corruption raids that have targeted 15 regional heads across Indonesia since 2025, including operations in Pekalongan, Cilacap, Pati and Sukoharjo.
