Indonesia's KPK probes alleged forestry bribery involving Kuantan Singingi regent
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has launched a detailed probe into a meeting between Suhardiman Amby, regent of Kuantan Singingi, and Raja Juli Antoni, Indonesia's Minister of Forestry. The meeting, held in Jakarta in early June 2026, is alleged to have discussed the conversion of forest land and the implementation of the Social Forestry program.
KPK’s investigation follows its finding that funds were collected from 914 members of a village cooperative (KUD) to facilitate the release of roughly 1,828 hectares of forest. The money is said to have been converted to Singapore dollars, and an envelope was reportedly given to the minister after the meeting. KPK has questioned three officials from the Ministry of Forestry and the Ministry of Agrarian and Land Affairs; the Director General of Social Forestry did not appear for questioning.
KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo said investigators are confirming the meeting’s agenda and gathering statements from senior officials of both ministries as part of the July 23, 2026 interrogation phase.
