Indonesia's KPK probes high‑profile corruption cases involving former regent and ex‑special prosecutor
On 27 July 2026 the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) in Jakarta examined Endri Elfran Syafril, known as Benny and husband of former Kutai Kartanegara regent Rita Widyasari, as a witness in a suspected gratification case linked to coal production in East Kalimantan. He arrived at the KPK’s Red‑White Building at 09:13 WIB and cooperated with investigators. The case follows the September 2017 indictment of Rita Widyasari, palm‑oil company director Hery Susanto, and media‑company commissioner Khairudin for alleged gratification tied to plantation permits.
Separately, KPK and police have launched a money‑laundering investigation against former special criminal prosecutor Febrie Adriansyah. A new investigation order was issued on 20 July 2026 after seizure of 74 kg of gold and foreign currency worth hundreds of billions of rupiah. Authorities aim to identify any masterminds and determine whether the alleged crimes occurred during his tenure as Jampidsus or earlier, emphasizing the need for public oversight of the case.
