Bupati Lombok Barat Lalu Ahmad Zaini Detained Over Corruption, Undeclared Assets, Bribery Allegations

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) carried out an operation‑tangkap‑tangan (OTT) on 20 July 2026 in Lombok Barat, arresting the region’s regent, Lalu Ahmad Zaini. He was subsequently designated a suspect for conflict of interest, bribery and receipt of gratifications linked to public‑works procurement. KPK seized cash and assets worth about Rp9.06 billion, including a Toyota Alphard, Hermes shoes, an iPhone 17 Pro and a sacrificial cow, with total alleged illicit proceeds estimated at Rp12.4 billion.

Investigations revealed that Zaini owns at least 55 parcels of land and buildings, yet only 24 were reported in his 2026 Laporan Harta Kekayaan Penyelenggara Negara (LHKPN). KPK spokesman Budi Prasetyo said, “Ditemukan dugaan adanya sejumlah harta atau aset milik LAZ yang belum tercantum dalam LHKPN‑nya, di mana diduga LAZ memiliki sekurang‑kurangnya 55 bidang tanah.”

The party Amanat Nasional (PAN) expelled Zaini from its ranks, and KPK stressed that the operation was a pure law‑enforcement action, not politically motivated. Two other officials—a water‑utility director and a private‑sector director—were also detained as suspects. The case underscores ongoing challenges in curbing regional corruption in Indonesia.
