Lombok Barat Bupati Lalu Ahmad Zaini Arrested in KPK Corruption Probe

Indonesia’s Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) carried out a covert operation on 20 July 2026 that seized Bupati (regent) of Lombok Barat, Lalu Ahmad Zaini, and several associates. The raid captured the regent, the director of PT Air Minum Giri Menang, Sudirman, and the director of PT Meconel Sistem Instrument, Alvonsus Gani, detaining them for an initial 20‑day period. KPK confiscated cash worth roughly Rp 9.06 billion and identified alleged bribes and gratifications totalling about Rp 12.4 billion, including a Toyota Alphard, Hermes shoes, an iPhone 17 Pro, and even a sacrificial cow. Investigators also uncovered that Zaini reportedly holds at least 55 parcels of land and buildings, yet only 24 were declared in his 2026 LHKPN asset report. The commission has linked the suspect to a conflict‑of‑interest scheme in public‑works procurement and to the use of illicit funds for buying shares in a local hospital. KPK officials stressed that the operation was a law‑enforcement action, not a political move, and the ruling PAN party expelled Zaini from its ranks. The case adds to a series of head‑of‑region arrests by KPK in 2026.
