Indonesia's KPK refutes viral money photo as corruptors shift to digital assets

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) in Jakarta clarified that a circulating photograph of stacked foreign currency was not linked to the June 5, 2026 raid on the home of former deputy minister of immigration and corrections Silmy Karim. The spokesperson said the image was unrelated to the operation that seized luxury cars, gold, and other assets.

KPK officials also highlighted a broader trend: younger corruptors are increasingly hiding proceeds in digital forms such as cryptocurrencies rather than traditional assets like real estate or vehicles. The agency noted that this shift requires new investigative techniques and the seizure of digital assets.

Both developments underscore the commission’s ongoing focus on large‑scale corruption schemes involving immigration permits and the evolving methods used by offenders.
