Indonesia's KPK to re‑call Anwar Sadad’s son as witness in grant‑fund corruption probe

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is weighing a re‑call of Muhammad Haykal Ismail Sadad, the son of DPR member Anwar Sadad, after he failed to appear for a scheduled testimony on 4 August 2026 in Jakarta. KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo said investigators are awaiting confirmation of his absence and may summon him again because his statement is needed for the case.

The investigation concerns alleged bribery linked to the allocation of East Java provincial grant funds for community groups in 2021‑2022. The probe grew out of a 2022 anti‑corruption operation that identified 21 suspects, now 20 after one death, with eight currently detained. Another private‑sector witness, Achmad Hadi Fauzan, attended the hearing. The case implicates Anwar Sadad and several other officials and businessmen.
