Indonesia's Labor Minister Yassierli Calls for Equal Job Opportunities for Persons with Disabilities

Labor Minister Yassierli said persons with disabilities must receive the same chance to work, develop skills and pursue careers, stressing that inclusive employment is essential for Indonesia's development. He cited International Labour Organization data showing global disability labor participation is about 30 % lower than non‑disabled groups and noted that young disabled people face nearly double the risk of exclusion from education, work and training.

The ministry plans three pillars to improve access: competency‑based recruitment, provision of reasonable workplace adjustments, and easily reachable employment services. Yassierli added that artificial‑intelligence tools should expand job access rather than create new barriers. Existing regulations, such as Law No. 8/2016, require a minimum quota of 2 % disabled workers in government agencies, state‑owned enterprises and regional companies, and 1 % in private firms, and the government is strengthening enforcement of these provisions.
