Indonesia's MBG program creates significant employment in Bogor and Central Java

The Makan Bergizi Gratis (MBG) program is driving significant job creation across several Indonesian regions. In the Bogor area, KPPG Bogor reports the creation of approximately 100,000 new jobs through the establishment of MBG kitchens. These positions, often referred to as MBG kitchen volunteers, are distributed across seven areas, including Bogor Regency, Bogor City, Cianjur, Sukabumi Regency, Sukabumi City, Depok, and Purwakarta. The initiative aims to boost village economies by increasing local purchasing power through the circulation of money within these communities.

In Central Java, discussions regarding the MBG program and industrial downstreaming highlight their potential to stimulate regional economies. Economic data indicates that Central Java's economy grew by 5.89 percent year-on-year in the first quarter of 2026, surpassing the national growth rate of 5.61 percent. Additionally, the open unemployment rate in Central Java was recorded at 4.24 percent in February 2026, a slight decrease from the previous year.
