Indonesia's Ministry of Culture announces heroic film competition winners

The Indonesian Ministry of Culture has announced 20 winners of the Heroic Narrative Film Production Competition. The program aims to strengthen national collective memory and revitalize historical literacy regarding the struggle for independence through contemporary cinema.

Minister of Culture Fadli Zon stated that the initiative is part of an effort to advance the national film ecosystem, specifically targeting the heroic narrative genre which faces competition from dominant genres like drama and horror. Following directives from President Prabowo Subianto, the films will focus on key historical milestones between 1945 and 1950, including the wars to defend independence and the formation of the Republic of Indonesia.

The selection process was highly competitive, involving 143 proposals from over 420 producers, directors, and scriptwriters. Fadli Zon emphasized that while the process was transparent and inclusive, the main challenge remains ensuring that productions maintain high technical and historical quality while meeting rapid production timelines.
