Indonesia's Ministry of Forestry strengthens technical personnel for carbon trading

The Indonesian Ministry of Forestry is strengthening the role of forestry technical management personnel (GANISPH) to prepare for the upcoming carbon trading era and to optimize non-tax state revenue (PNBP). Currently, there are 14,466 certified GANISPH in Indonesia, though most are concentrated in timber management. The Ministry aims to increase technical expertise in non-timber forest products and environmental services to better support social forestry.

During the first National Deliberation of the Association of Forestry Technical Management Personnel (ASGANISPH) in Sleman, the Directorate General of Sustainable Forest Management emphasized that these professionals are essential for structured and sustainable forest governance. GANISPH play a strategic role at the ground level, handling planning, forest product administration, and protection, including forest fire mitigation. The Ministry is working to improve certification systems, competency standards, and regulations to ensure these personnel can address challenges such as deforestation and disaster risks.
