Indonesia's Ministry of Industry clarifies 150,000-ton raw sugar import

The Indonesian Ministry of Industry has clarified that the import of 150,000 tons of Raw Crystal Sugar (GKM) is intended solely as raw material for the food, beverage, and pharmaceutical industries. The ministry emphasized that these imports are not meant to meet general public consumption.

Spokesperson Febri Hendri Antoni Arief stated that there will be no increase in quotas or allocations for refined sugar factories this year. In fact, the allocation for 2026 is expected to decrease compared to previous years due to industry reformulations related to restrictions on sugar, salt, and fat (GGL).

Under current regulations, refined crystal sugar (GKR) produced from these imports is strictly prohibited from entering the general consumer market and must only be distributed to industrial users as raw or auxiliary materials to maintain proper commodity governance.
