Indonesia's Ministry of Religion to Add LGBTQ Prevention Material to Schools by 2026

The Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs is drafting educational material aimed at preventing the spread of LGBTQ culture in religious and general schools. The curriculum will be inserted into existing subjects and target students from fourth grade through secondary education, with rollout planned for the 2026/2027 academic year.

The program, described by Deputy Minister Romo Muhammad Syafi'i, will combine moral and character education with information on perceived risks of LGBTQ influence, including references to international contexts. Teacher training and guidance materials will be provided to ensure the content is delivered responsibly.

The ministry says the initiative is part of a broader effort to strengthen character education and uphold religious and cultural values among Indonesia's youth.
