Indonesia's Ministry of Religious Affairs launches mosque cleaning drive and urges bureaucracy cut

Minister of Religious Affairs Nasruddin Umar opened the series of events marking Indonesia's 81st Independence Day, calling civil servants to use the occasion to strengthen unity, eliminate bureaucratic barriers and promote a healthy, collaborative workplace. He emphasized equal treatment of all staff, adherence to core values and regular exercise.

The ministry also announced the national "Geber Masjid" (mosque cleaning) movement, scheduled for 10 August 2026. Director General Abu Rokhmad said the campaign will start at Masjid Fatahillah in Jakarta and expand to registered mosques across the country, with 611 already enrolled, the most in East Java. Participants will receive certificates and the initiative aims to foster lasting cleanliness, support the ASRI program and reinforce mosques as community hubs.
