Indonesia's Ministry of Social Affairs opens new Sekolah Rakyat campuses in Banjarbaru and Bandung

The Ministry of Social Affairs announced that the permanent Sekolah Rakyat (People's School) in Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan, will begin operations on 15 August 2026. The school will start with a two‑week Masa Pengenalan Lingkungan Sekolah (MPLS) for students of all levels, using the primary‑school complex while construction continues on other facilities. Safety measures such as window railings and mosquito netting are being installed, and the dormitory is near completion.

In West Java, the integrated Sekolah Rakyat in Kabupaten Bandung (SRT 4) opened for the 2026‑2027 academic year, enrolling 560 students across elementary, junior high, and senior high levels. The campus includes classrooms, dormitories, teacher housing, a mosque, a multipurpose hall, and sports fields. PT Brantas Abipraya (Persero) highlighted its role in providing the infrastructure, and the opening ceremony was attended by senior officials from the Presidential Staff, the Ministry of Social Affairs, and the Ministry of Public Works. Both schools are part of the government's expansion of the Sekolah Rakyat program from 166 to 182 locations, targeting 28,568 students nationwide.
