Indonesia's MUI pushes for LGSP terminology and anti‑LGSP law

The Majelis Ulama Indonesia (MUI) has proposed replacing the term LGBT with "Lesbi, Gay, Sodomi, dan Pencabulan" (LGSP) and is preparing an academic paper and a draft Anti‑LGSP bill. The Ministry of Religious Affairs, represented by Director Ahmad Zayadi, said the proposal fits within religious outreach, education and moral guidance, citing President Regulation No. 111/2025 that classifies the spread of LGBTQ culture as a non‑military threat to national resilience.

Political analyst Efriza of the Citra Institute warned that the DPR and the government must respond promptly, noting that previous MUI fatwas on pornography eventually led to a dedicated law. He urged legislators to consider the draft bill seriously once submitted, emphasizing the need for swift parliamentary action.
