Indonesia’s New Capital IKN Remains on Track Amid False Prabowo Claim

A social‑media post falsely alleged that President Prabowo Subianto opposed moving Indonesia’s capital to the new IKN (Nusantara) and wanted the Indonesian National Armed Forces to take over the site as a military headquarters. Fact‑checks found no such statement from Prabowo; the Cabinet Secretariat confirmed his visit to IKN was to monitor the ongoing development and reaffirm the government's commitment to relocate the capital, with full operational readiness expected by 2028‑2029.

Indonesia is also listed among five nations planning or executing capital relocations, alongside Egypt’s New Administrative Capital, Iran’s proposed Makran capital, South Korea’s Sejong administrative city, and its own IKN project aimed at easing Jakarta’s congestion, flood risk and land subsidence while creating a sustainable forest city.
