Indonesia moves to draft ban on LGBT following presidential decree

Social and religious observer Anwar Abbas urged the Indonesian government and the DPR to swiftly draft a law prohibiting LGBT activity, citing President Prabowo Subianto’s Presidential Regulation No. 111/2025 that labels LGBT culture a non‑military threat. He said, “Kita berharap pemerintah dan DPR dapat membuat undang‑undang tentang pelarangan LGBT secepatnya.”

Deputy Chairman of DPR Commission II Dede Yusuf publicly backed the measure, arguing that LGBT issues are “berbahaya… terhadap generasi‑generasi anak‑anak baru.”

Local officials echoed the call: Malang mayor Wahyu Hidayat declared a “war against LGBTQ” and announced early‑stage education campaigns, while Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi pledged prevention through school programs and free counseling services.

Gerindra faction secretary Dwi Yasmanto stressed that any response must avoid violence, advocating education, medical and psychiatric support instead of “hunter‑boti” actions. The combined push reflects a coordinated effort across national and regional leaders to codify an outright ban on LGBT activities in Indonesia.
