Indonesia's OJK outlines crypto regulation and gender gap in digital asset adoption
Indonesia's Financial Services Authority (OJK) said the crypto market remains dominated by men, while women show greater caution and risk awareness. Angelique Timmer, Regional Head for Southeast Asia at Women’s World Banking, noted women are "more open than men, but also more aware of risk" when it comes to high‑risk assets. OJK Deputy for Financial Technology Innovation, Satrio Nugroho, echoed the finding, saying women tend to be more careful and may hesitate before taking large credit or investment steps. OJK Executive Director Adi Budiarso explained that Indonesia’s revised P2SK law places digital financial assets and crypto on an equal regulatory footing with banking, capital markets, and pension funds, granting them the same licensing, supervision, enforcement and consumer‑protection standards. The regulator plans to draft a blueprint and roadmap to guide the development of the crypto industry.
The statements underscore OJK’s intent to deepen education and literacy around crypto while ensuring a robust, internationally comparable regulatory framework.
