OJK Defends 2025 Financial Report and Tightens Online Lending Rules
Indonesia's Financial Services Authority (OJK) clarified that the apparent deficit in its 2025 financial report reflects an accounting transition under the 2023 financial sector law, not a cash shortfall. The regulator also introduced new rules for the online‑lending (Pindar) sector through POJK No. 8/2026, obliging platforms to submit complete, accurate transaction data, prohibiting the sale of customer information, and requiring a designated director and periodic internal audits.
OJK further granted legal certainty for pawnshop companies to offer document‑based loans under amendments to POJK No. 39/2024, aiming to expand financing for micro, small and medium enterprises. In its latest supervisory data, OJK reported that total bank credit grew 12.67% year‑on‑year to Rp9,081 trillion in June 2026, with investment credit up 24.9%. Outstanding financing for online lenders reached Rp105.14 trillion, a 25.88% increase, while seven of 94 platforms failed to meet the minimum equity requirement of Rp12.5 billion and 39 platforms received administrative sanctions for regulatory breaches.
