Indonesia's PNM Boosts Ultra‑Micro Family Financial Resilience

PT Permodalan Nasional Madani (PNM), under the Danantara program, is expanding collateral‑free ultra‑micro financing for low‑income families in Indonesia. The model pairs loans with weekly group meetings (PKM) that provide education on household budgeting, business development and networking among women entrepreneurs.

Research by BRI Research Institute in 2023 showed that 69.2 % of PNM's ultra‑micro clients reported stronger financial resilience, and 48.1 % now can sustain their households for one to two months without additional income—up from one to two weeks previously. Director General Kindaris said the improved resilience helps families meet essential needs, keep their businesses running and avoid risky borrowing or asset sales during crises, thereby supporting the broader national economy.
