Indonesia's President Prabowo Pushes Fast-Track Construction of North Bali Airport
President Prabowo Subianto has instructed an accelerated build of a new international airport in North Bali, to be located in the Kubutambahan area of Buleleng Regency. The project, part of the 2025‑2029 National Medium‑Term Development Plan (RPJMN) under Presidential Regulation No. 12 of 2025, was discussed in a meeting on 14 July 2026 with PT Pembangunan Bali Mandiri President Commissioner Baringin Panggabean and State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi at the Presidential Retreat in Hambalang, West Java. The design, approved by the Directorate General of Air Transportation, aims to accommodate wide‑body aircraft such as the Boeing 777 and Airbus A380, relieving capacity pressure on the existing Ngurah Rai International Airport and promoting tourism in northern Bali.
Head of the President’s Staff, General Dudung Abdurachman, confirmed that President Prabowo gave direct orders to expedite the project and that a coordination meeting with Bali Governor Wayan Koster, Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo, and Bappisus head Aries Marsudiyanto will be held in Jakarta on 30 July to implement the directives. The airport is presented as a catalyst for more balanced economic development between North and South Bali.
