Indonesia's PTPN I Highlights Role in National Food Sovereignty

State-owned plantation company PTPN I (Persero) reaffirmed its commitment to Indonesia’s food security at a ceremony in Jakarta, launching the book *Pangan dalam Aspek Pertahanan Negara* authored by its chief executive Abdul Rivai Ras. Ras said the company’s strategic position in agriculture directly supports national sovereignty, noting that “Program Asta Cita Presiden Prabowo sangat relevan dengan tugas PTPN I dalam mendukung ketahanan pangan” and that “Bangsa yang tidak mampu memenuhi kebutuhan pangannya sendiri tidak akan benar-benar merdeka.”

Government data cited predict rice production in 2025 to reach 34.71 million tonnes, a 13.36 % rise from the previous year, creating a surplus of about 3.52 million tonnes and eliminating the need for rice imports. Indonesia has also achieved self‑sufficiency in eight key commodities: rice, corn feed, sugar, large chili, bird’s‑eye chili, red onion, broiler chicken, and chicken eggs. Ras attributed these gains to coordinated efforts among the government, farmers, state‑owned enterprises, academia, the private sector, the military and police.

PTPN I plans to accelerate business transformation through plantation modernization, digital operations, workforce development and downstream processing based on bio‑energy, aiming to further boost its contribution to the nation’s food resilience.
