Indonesia's Religious Affairs Minister to promote peace diplomacy in Assisi
Indonesian Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar will participate in the “Unarmed and Disarming Peace” international forum in Assisi, Italy, from October 25–27, 2026. The annual event, organized by the Community of Sant’Egidio, brings together global religious leaders, politicians, and civil society members to address humanitarian crises and global conflicts.
During the forum, the Minister is scheduled to deliver an opening speech and a keynote address at the “Prayer, Dialogue and Peace: The Legacy of Assisi” session. He intends to advocate for religious diplomacy, emphasizing that interfaith dialogue must move beyond written agreements to become tangible humanitarian action. Umar aims to present Indonesia’s experience in managing diversity and religious harmony as a model for international stability.
The 2026 meeting also commemorates the 40th anniversary of the World Day of Prayer for Peace. The event will feature 24 thematic forums and conclude with a peace ceremony led by Pope Leo XIV.
