Indonesia's Social Affairs Ministry launches team to speed permanent Sekolah Rakyat school construction
The Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs has created the Sekolah Rakyat Development Acceleration Team (TP2SR), an ad‑hoc body tasked with fast‑tracking the construction of permanent facilities for 61 pilot Sekolah Rakyat schools across 57 regional governments. The move follows a directive from Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf and was announced by Deputy Minister Agus Jabo Priyono, who warned that without completion this year the temporary schools could be forced to close next year.
TP2SR will hold a Desk Evaluation on 12 August 2026 to gather data on land status, identify pending proposals and coordinate with ministries such as Public Works, Agrarian Affairs, Environment, Agriculture, Home Affairs and Perhutani. Its mandate includes ongoing monitoring, assistance and control of the building process to ensure the schools—providing free education, health checks and scholarship pathways for low‑income families—remain operational.
The accelerated effort aims to prevent the loss of educational access for children from the poorest households and to secure the program’s broader goal of reducing financial burdens on families.
