Indonesia's Tourism Ministry Launches Wellness Tourism Ecosystem to Boost Competitiveness
The Ministry of Tourism (Kemenpar) is developing a sustainable wellness‑tourism ecosystem aimed at strengthening Indonesia's global tourism competitiveness. The initiative targets improvements in destinations, service standards, product innovation, investment, promotion, and human‑resource capacity.
Wellness tourism accounted for 13.35% of foreign visitor activity in Indonesia in 2024, and the Global Wellness Institute projects the worldwide market to reach US$6.8 trillion this year, rising to US$9.75 trillion by 2029. Indonesia is identified as Southeast Asia's largest wellness‑economy hub, valued at US$55.77 billion. The ministry is especially focusing on Millennial and Gen Z travelers, whose motivations include experiential activities, events, and integrated travel experiences.
