Indonesia's Tourism Ministry Requests Additional Rp 1.99 trillion Budget to Meet 2027 Visitor Targets
Indonesia's Ministry of Tourism aims to attract 17.6 million to 19.1 million foreign visitors in 2027, targeting an average spend of $1,447‑$1,497 per trip and generating $25.5‑$28.6 billion in revenue. The ministry also seeks to boost tourism‑related employment to 27.33 million workers and raise the sector's contribution to GDP to 4.7‑4.8%. Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana told a parliamentary working session that the goal is to ensure "every rupiah allocated delivers the greatest impact for the community, businesses, regions and the national economy."
To support these objectives, the ministry has asked for an additional budget of Rp 1.99 trillion for 2027. The current indicative allocation of Rp 1.01 trillion falls short of the ministry's ideal Rp 3 trillion, based on historical trends where funding peaked at Rp 5.41 trillion. Widiyanti presented the request to the DPR's Commission VII, emphasizing the need for sufficient resources to achieve the sector's growth targets.
