Indonesia's Transmigration Ministry seeks research partnership with Peking University
Indonesian Transmigration Minister Iftitah has proposed a research collaboration with Peking University to transform transmigration areas into new economic growth centers. During a public lecture at the Institute of South-South Cooperation and Development (ISSCAD) in Beijing, the Minister emphasized that developing these regions requires more than just land and infrastructure.
The proposed partnership aims to conduct applied research in specific transmigration zones to map value chains, identify development barriers, and address skill gaps. The goal is to connect sectors such as agriculture, fisheries, and mineral resources with processing industries, technology, and market access.
Minister Iftitah highlighted that human resource development, education, and mindset shifts are critical to ensuring sustainable economic opportunities. The Ministry intends to involve professors, researchers, and students to provide practical assistance and training to local communities, helping them adapt to industrialization and new economic demands.
