Indonesia's Yusril Ihza Mahendra ends fast‑track visa scheme after probe

Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration and Prisons Yusril Ihza Mahendra announced that the government has completely eliminated the paid “fast‑track” processing for Limited Stay Permits (ITAS) and Permanent Stay Permits (ITAP) for foreign nationals. The move is part of a broader bureaucratic reform driven by Immigration Minister Agus Andrianto since the new cabinet took office.

Yusril said illegal fees were being collected by some officials, with payments diverted to personal accounts rather than state revenue, constituting extortion and gratuity. He referenced ongoing investigations by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), which has uncovered a case involving alleged misappropriation of up to Rp145.5 billion from visa services for foreign nationals.

The minister urged full cooperation from all immigration offices, especially the West Jakarta Immigration Office, calling for transparency, data sharing and further scrutiny to ensure all corruption cases are fully investigated and corrected.
