Indoor plant care adjustments for the autumn and heating season

As autumn approaches, indoor plant care requires adjustments to account for shorter days, decreasing natural light, and the onset of the heating season. To prevent plant stress, it is recommended to reduce watering frequency, as slower growth and lower evaporation rates mean plants consume less water. Overwatering is a significant risk, particularly for succulents, Sansevieria, and Zamioculcas.

Fertilization should also be scaled back as the active growing season ends. Additionally, plant placement becomes critical during the heating season. While moving plants closer to windows for light is common, the temperature contrast between cold window glass and hot radiators can be harmful. Extreme temperature fluctuations and the dry air produced by heaters can cause leaf browning, root issues, or pest infestations, especially in tropical species.
