Indore anti-encroachment drive turns violent after stone pelting
An anti-encroachment drive in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, turned violent on Tuesday morning when protesters allegedly pelted stones at a team from the Indore Municipal Corporation and local police. The operation, aimed at clearing structures to complete a road construction project, took place in the Bicholi Kakad, Shiv Nagar, and Shiv Darshan Nagar areas.
Police used mild force to disperse the crowd and restore order. Two individuals sustained minor injuries and were taken to a hospital, while two others were taken into custody. Authorities stated that the action follows administrative orders and road demarcation guidelines.
The road project, measuring 4.25 kilometers in length, has faced a three-year delay on a one-kilometer stretch between Bengali Square and Pipliyahana due to encroachments. Approximately 55 crore rupees have already been spent on connectivity works for this project. While 325 families have previously been relocated, some structures remained due to prior court stay orders.
