Indore Congress chief Chintu Chaukhse held for hours after student protests
Congress city president Chintu Chaukhse was taken to Pandhrinath police station in Indore and questioned for about five hours following a student demonstration over the NEET examination. The interrogation began in the afternoon and continued into the evening.
A large group of Congress leaders and supporters, including former minister Sajjan Singh Verma, gathered outside the station, chanting slogans and demanding Chaukhse’s release. After the questioning, police released him, but Chaukhse accused the police of deliberate intimidation, saying he was detained without cause and kept seated for an excessive period to apply pressure.
The Congress party has denounced the action as political harassment linked to the party’s role in providing food, tents and other assistance to students during the protest. Police have not disclosed the specific reasons for the interrogation.
