Indore shuts illegal old‑age home after viral abuse video
The Indore district administration sealed the Maharana Pratap Welfare Society, an illegally operated old‑age home, and relocated all 31 residents to government‑recognised shelters following a viral video that showed a minor beating an elderly woman with a stick. Collector Shivam Verma ordered an inquiry; a joint team from the district administration, the Social Justice Department and the Women and Child Development Department inspected the premises and confirmed the facility was operating without the required permission.
Sub‑Divisional Magistrate Nidhi Verma said, “A video of the old‑age home went viral on social media… Following the Collector’s directions, officials inspected the facility.” Operator Neelam Dubey claimed she was not present at the time, stating, “On Guru Purnima, I served food to the residents… later I was informed the boy had hit an elderly woman with a stick.” The boy had been staying at the home for five months after his mother died of burn injuries. Proceedings to seal the premises and file an FIR have been initiated. Elderly residents in stable condition were moved to the Nirashrit Ashram and Ganesh Old Age Home in Gandhinagar, while those requiring medical care were admitted to a government hospital.
