Indore to host 150 crore rupee Devi Ahilyabai Holker memorial
The Madhya Pradesh government is constructing a memorial in Indore dedicated to the life and legacy of Devi Ahilyabai Holker at an estimated cost of 150 crore rupees. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav recently inspected the construction site near Lalbagh Palace to review progress.
The project aims to utilize modern audio-visual technology, including 3D projections, digital presentations, murals, and light and sound shows, to educate visitors on Holker's contributions to governance, justice, and public service. Approximately 50 percent of the building construction is already complete.
Chief Minister Yadav has directed officials to implement an integrated development plan that includes nearby historical sites such as Lalbagh Palace, Rampur Kothi, Champa Bawdi, and a Shiva temple. This approach is intended to allow tourists to visit these cultural landmarks collectively. The government emphasized that the restoration of historical structures, such as the ongoing work at Rampur Kothi using traditional lime techniques, must preserve their original character and historical identity.
The memorial is targeted for completion before the 2028 Simhastha Kumbh Mela in Ujjain.
