Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison expands 5G network after securing new spectrum

Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison announced that it has secured additional spectrum in the recent Indonesian auction, acquiring 2 × 10 MHz in the 700 MHz band for Rp 507.48 billion and 60 MHz in the 2.6 GHz band for Rp 372 billion. "Indosat will optimize spectrum utilization gradually as part of its national network development strategy," said Reski Damayanti, Director & Chief Legal & Regulatory Officer.

The company plans to use the wide‑area coverage of the 700 MHz band to improve indoor penetration and broaden 5G services. Since the second quarter of 2025, Indosat has installed more than 2,900 new 5G base‑transceiver stations (BTS), bringing the total in the Jakarta region to over 3,000. Vikram Sinha, President Director and CEO, reported that data traffic in Inner Jakarta grew 18 % year‑on‑year in the first half of 2026, with subscriber numbers rising 3.5 % to over 12.5 million. Outer Jakarta saw a 15.7 % traffic increase and a 4.5 % subscriber gain, also reaching 12.5 million. The firm also highlighted its SheHacks 2026 program, which trains female micro‑small‑medium enterprises to use AI for digital transformation.
