Viettel secures spectrum rights to launch telecom services in Dominican Republic
Viettel Group, the Vietnamese state-owned telecommunications giant, has successfully won a bid to enter the Dominican Republic market. Following Resolution 073-2026 issued by the Dominican Institute of Telecommunications (INDOTEL), Viettel Global was awarded 240 MHz of spectrum across the 700 MHz, 2.3 GHz, and 3.6 GHz bands for a 20-year period.
The spectrum allocation is intended to support the deployment of advanced 4G and 5G mobile networks. Viettel plans to invest approximately $550 million to build modern infrastructure, marking its 11th international market and its third in the Americas. The company is expected to establish a local legal entity and sign the official concession agreement within 90 days.
Dominican authorities, including INDOTEL Chairman Guido Gómez Mazara, expressed optimism that Viettel’s entry will increase market competition, improve service quality, and optimize costs for consumers in a sector currently dominated by a few major players. Viettel Group Chairman and CEO Tao Duc Thang noted that the move is a key step in the company’s long-term international expansion strategy.
