Indotel highlights digital connectivity at CANTO 2026

At the 41st Annual Conference and Exhibition of the Caribbean Association of National Telecommunications Organizations (CANTO) in Punta Cana, Guido Gómez Mazara, president of the Dominican Institute of Telecommunications (Indotel), emphasized that digital connectivity is a strategic necessity for Caribbean competitiveness, investment, and social inclusion.

Gómez Mazara outlined several key technological initiatives for the Dominican Republic, including a projected investment exceeding US$500 million in digital exchange infrastructure and the deployment of new submarine cables to strengthen international connectivity. He also highlighted the implementation of the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy and efforts to integrate the country into global semiconductor industry value chains.

Regarding local telecommunications, Indotel is focusing on expanding 4G and 5G networks, managing the radio spectrum, and reducing the digital divide. The official noted that Indotel has formally joined CANTO as a full member to foster regional regulatory cooperation.
