Indra and Cohere sign AI partnership to advance sovereign AI in Spain and Canada

Indra and Canadian AI firm Cohere have signed a memorandum of understanding to develop sovereign artificial‑intelligence solutions for Spain, Canada and the wider European market. The collaboration will be delivered through Indra's IndraMind initiative, which will provide sovereign computing and data‑management capabilities, while Cohere will supply sovereign large‑language models. Together they plan to create a platform for small and medium‑sized enterprises that incorporates agentic AI assistants to identify opportunities, vet partners and generate action plans, as well as to develop defence‑focused tools for AI‑enhanced command, control and mission planning.

The agreement also includes a joint line of work on adapting the technology to Spain's official languages – Castilian, Catalan, Valencian, Basque and Galician – and integrating it into the broader IndraMind ecosystem. The signing took place in Canada during a visit by King Felipe VI and Spain’s first vice‑president and minister of Economy, Trade and Business, Carlos Cuerpo, alongside a delegation of strategic companies. In the same event, the Spanish and Canadian governments signed a separate MoU to deepen cooperation on AI, covering investment, infrastructure, talent development and public‑private collaboration.
