Hanwha Aerospace and Indra sign K9 howitzer deal with Spain

South Korean defense firm Hanwha Aerospace has signed an agreement with Spain’s Indra Sistemas to supply K9 self-propelled howitzers. This deal marks the first entry of the K9 platform into the Western European market, expanding its user base to 11 nations.

While specific contract totals and delivery schedules remain confidential, financial analysts estimate the value could exceed $480 million. The agreement includes an initial payment of 20% upon signing, with an additional 5% due by the end of the year. Under the terms, Indra will be responsible for manufacturing vehicle hulls in Spain, specifically at its facility in Gijón, and will integrate mission systems and battlefield management software.

The deal is part of a broader Spanish military modernization program with an estimated budget of approximately €4.5 billion, aimed at renewing the country's artillery fleet. Additionally, Indra has entered into a separate collaboration agreement with Gutmar in Catalonia to manufacture critical defense components, including high-precision CNC parts and electronic subassemblies, to support growing demand within the European defense sector.
