Indra CEO highlights technological roots as defense sector advantage

Josep Maria Recasens, CEO of Indra, stated that the company’s technological origins provide a unique advantage for leadership in the defense sector. Speaking at a defense forum, Recasens emphasized that future competitiveness will depend on the ability to integrate artificial intelligence into sovereign platforms to manage complex, multi-domain scenarios through Command and Control systems.

Recasens highlighted the need for supply chain resilience to support the production of vehicles and radars, as well as the implementation of AI in national platforms. Drawing from his experience in the automotive industry, he suggested that defense sectors could adopt automotive manufacturing practices to mass-produce equipment and stabilize programs. He also noted that European fragmentation remains a weakness when competing against the technological hegemonies of China and the United States.
