Indra Group tests military AI for threat identification and route planning

The FaRADAI project, ‘Frugal and Robust AI for Defence Advanced Intelligence’, is developing specialized artificial intelligence for military applications. Funded by the European Defence Fund, the initiative aims to create AI that is frugal, robust, and explainable, meaning it can operate effectively with limited computational resources in remote environments.

Indra Group has led the development of critical use cases within the consortium, which includes 38 partners from 13 European countries coordinated by the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH). One key application involves enhancing sensor resilience against deceptive conditions, allowing systems to identify vehicles, personnel, and infrastructure in complex terrestrial scenes.

Additionally, the technology supports real-time decision-making by dynamically calculating safe routes during unforeseen operational changes. Representatives from various EU Ministries of Defense and the European Commission recently met in Thessaloniki, Greece, to review the project's findings regarding system resilience and human-machine collaboration.
