Indonesia records several deadly road accidents in July 2026

On 12 July, a traffic collision on the Pantura highway near Indramayu, West Java, involved a wing‑box truck that failed to brake, striking a wedding‑party pickup and a rear‑loading truck. Twelve people were killed. Police arrested the truck driver, identified only as “A”, and announced plans to permanently close 141 illegal U‑turns along the 68‑km stretch of Pantura.

On 17 July, a multi‑vehicle crash on Jalan Jamin Ginting near Sibolangit, North Sumatra, involved a Fuso truck hauling mineral‑water gallons that suffered brake failure on a downhill section. Four occupants of the following vehicles died and eight were injured. The 50‑year‑old driver, Ilham, was detained for investigation.

A day later, on 18 July, a chain‑reaction collision on the Jakarta Outer Ring Road (JORR) at kilometer 54.600, Bintara heading toward Cakung, involved six vehicles. The rear‑most container truck, driven by Gandi Sugandi (59), reportedly experienced micro‑sleep and struck the vehicles ahead, killing the driver and injuring two others. The incident prompted road‑safety checks on the tollway.
