Indranil Sen seeks Supreme Court bail in ED money laundering case
Former West Bengal Minister Indranil Sen has approached the Supreme Court seeking anticipatory bail to avoid arrest in a money laundering investigation conducted by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). This legal move follows a recent decision by a single-judge bench of the Calcutta High Court, which rejected his previous bail application.
Sen and his wife, Madhuchanda Sen, are accused of irregularities involving the sale of fraudulent passes for Durga Puja tours that falsely used a UNESCO tag. The transactions involved in the alleged scheme were initially estimated to be worth approximately Rs 60 crore.
The investigation began with a complaint filed at the Bowbazar Police Station in Kolkata, leading the ED to register an Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR). Recent enforcement actions have included raids at Sen’s residence and the premises of relatives and associated event managers. The Supreme Court is expected to hear the matter once it reopens after its scheduled closure next week.
