INDRHI announces water infrastructure projects in Puerto Plata

The National Institute of Hydraulic Resources (INDRHI) has announced a series of infrastructure projects in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, totaling over RD$420 million. These works are part of an emergency plan decreed by President Luis Abinader following heavy rainfall in April.

The planned projects include the construction of gabion walls on the Bajabonico and Guananico rivers to protect roads and residential areas, as well as the cleaning of various canals and riverbeds in municipalities such as Altamira, Imbert, and Luperón.

Additionally, the government is designing two new dams on the Yásica and Bajabonico rivers. These dams aim to capture water that currently flows into the ocean, repurposing it for clean energy production, potable water supply, and agricultural irrigation to support the region's livestock and farming sectors.
