Induction cooktops identified as major household electricity consumers

Research from Swedish energy agencies indicates that induction cooktops are among the largest consumers of electricity in many households. While appliances like refrigerators run continuously, the high power requirements of induction zones—typically ranging between 1,000 and 3,000 watts, with some boost modes reaching 3,700 watts—can lead to significant cumulative usage.

Estimates suggest that using an induction cooktop for just one hour per day can result in an annual consumption of approximately 1,200 kWh. Other energy portals, such as Energimyndigheten and EuroEnergyLab, estimate average annual household consumption for these devices to be between 500 and 800 kWh, depending on the specific model and cooking habits.

To manage costs, experts suggest using the lowest effective power setting, turning the appliance off immediately when cooking is finished, using appropriately sized cookware that fits the zone, and utilizing lids to retain heat.
