The Model Context Protocol (MCP) is presented as a vendor‑neutral standard that lets enterprise AI agents, tools and data sources interoperate via a single integration layer. Backed by OpenAI, Google, Microsoft and hosted by the Linux Foundation, MCP aims to cut custom connector development, lower costs and provide governance for coordinated AI agents within complex corporate workflows.
