Industrial development efforts face progress and disputes in Gorj, Romania

In the Gorj region of Romania, efforts to expand industrial capacity are meeting both new opportunities and administrative hurdles. Constantin Popescu, the mayor of Turceni, announced plans to develop one of the country’s most modern industrial parks. The project, covering 19 hectares, seeks approximately 11–12 million euros from the Just Transition Fund. The facility is designed to include access roads, utilities, fiber optics, and administrative offices, with several investors already expressing interest in utilizing the site for high-tech business operations.

Simultaneously, tensions have emerged regarding expansion efforts at the Gorj Industrial Park. Eftemie Popescu, the park's director, reported a breakdown in cooperation with the administration of Uzina Mecanică Sadu. The director stated that the inability to acquire abandoned assets from the Sadu II platform has blocked potential expansion, as the current park lacks available space for new production areas. Popescu emphasized that resolving these disputes is critical for regional economic development and job creation.
