Industrial drums found drifting off the Spanish coast

Industrial drums have been discovered drifting along the coasts of the Baix Penedès and Garraf regions in Spain. In mid-August, Salvamento Marítimo recovered a heavily rusted drum from the waters of Segur de Calafell to prevent navigation hazards and potential toxic leaks.

On August 28, a second drum with similar characteristics arrived at a beach in Cubelles. This drum reportedly has a small leak, and while local officials suggest the contents may be a non-combustible liquid, an analysis is required to confirm. The local mayor, Rosa Fonoll, stated that specialized companies are being contacted to manage the removal of the waste.

Similar incidents involving drifting 200-liter drums have been reported in other areas, including the Bay of Palma in mid-August and Altea in June.
