Termini Imerese industrial zone fire contained after massive emergency response
On 26 July 2026 a large fire ignited in the industrial area of Termini Imerese, Palermo province, Sicily, after dry vegetation caught fire and was driven by strong winds. The blaze spread to three industrial warehouses.
The response involved 17 squads of the fire brigade, five volunteer civil‑protection squads and regional resources. A helicopter could not drop water due to wind, so the regional civil‑protection department requested two Canadair aircraft from the national air‑operations centre. The fire was subsequently circumscribed, limiting damage to the three warehouses.
Regional civil‑protection chief Salvo Cocina kept the regional president Renato Schifani and fire‑service commanders informed throughout the operation. Additional fire units from neighboring provinces were dispatched, and the situation was monitored for further spread, including impacts on nearby roads and other municipalities. Cleanup and full safety checks are ongoing.
